Ron re-elected Lib Dem Leader in Gateshead
For the first time in 22 years, the whole council will be up for election in one go. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to defeat Labour and take control of Gateshead Council
Ron Beadle
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Low Fell, Ron Beadle, has been re-elected as Leader of the party and Opposition on Gateshead Council.
Ron, who was first elected Leader in 2023, was returned unopposed at the Lib Dem group meeting on Monday 5th May. He leads a group of 18 councillors, the only
opposition to Labour in Gateshead, and his first action after his re-election was to put Lib Dems on a battle footing for the local elections next year [2026].
The two by-elections held in Gateshead since the General Election show that only the Lib Dems are on the march here. In Bridges, once one of Labour’s safest wards, we were only 65 votes behind Labour. In Whickham North, Labour collapsed and the Lib Dem share of the vote soared.

Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners are now stepping up our campaigning across Gateshead. We are the alternative to Labour here and we have a clear determination to win control next year.
