I was first elected 30 years ago as a member for Whickham North. When the ward boundaries changed my house was included in the new ward, and I have represented it ever since.
I have lived in the area all my life and held many community appointments, including Chair of the Newcastle Upon Tyne and North Northumberland Branch of the RSPCA for many years. I have been involved in a number of other charities across the region. I was the parliamentary candidate for Blaydon on two occasions (and nearly took the seat on one of them), and also stood in Gateshead, Jarrow and Newcastle North.
Professionally I am a Solicitor, and have practised in Gateshead since 1978.

My beliefs and political views are centred on striving for equality and fairness in every part of society.
In my professional life I am the Head of Customer Success for an online events platform.

I want to make life better for local residents by focusing on real, practical improvements that matter to people’s daily lives:
Improving local facilities for everyone - I want to see investment in our parks, community centres, youth clubs, and public spaces. I’ll push for better maintenance of roads and footpaths, improved access for people with disabilities, and updated play areas for children. I’ll work with the council to prioritise areas that have been overlooked and fight for funding to upgrade the places that bring us together.
Working together to reduce anti-social behaviour - I believe tackling anti-social behaviour needs teamwork – between the council, police, residents, and local services. I’ll support more visible community policing, better street lighting, and early intervention programmes for young people. I’m committed to listening to residents and taking swift action on fly-tipping, vandalism, and nuisance behaviour in our neighbourhoods.
Bringing empty premises back into use - Empty shops and buildings drag down our high streets and communities. I’ll campaign to bring these spaces back into use – for local businesses, community groups, pop-up events, or even affordable housing. I support stronger powers to make landlords act and more support for community-led regeneration.
Supporting practical changes that make everyday life easier - Whether it's improving public transport, fixing bin collection issues, or making services easier to access, I want to get the basics right. I’ll push for greener, more reliable transport, better communication from the council, and changes that put residents first.
I care deeply about our area and want to help build a safer, stronger, and more vibrant community – and with your support, I’m ready to get to work.
