A Lib Dem Council would empower residents to have a real say over issues that matter. In the meantime we speak up for people who all too often feel let down. Gateshead charges the highest levels of Council Tax for band D properties of any metropolitan borough in the country but residents feel that it is out of touch and unresponsive. That has to change!

Under the Government’s plans, all pensioners earning £35,000 a year or less will now have their Winter Fuel Payments reinstated this winter. However, those who are now eligible but lost out last winter won’t be reimbursed under the Government’s plans.
Too many properties on the Croft Estate are boarded up. Residents suffer from graffiti. Homes are left empty for too long at a time of a housing shortage. Fire damaged properties stand dangerously. It shouldn’t be like this!
