Gateshead Flyover will be 'gone within a year', council leader promises
Three months on from the sudden closure of the A167 Gateshead Highway flyover in December, Gateshead Council formally committed on Tuesday to tear it down.
I’m a Gateshead-based entrepreneur, qualified teacher, and community leader committed to helping local people build more secure, fulfilling lives.
I’ve spent most of my working life self-employed — starting and growing businesses — and I’m passionate about helping others do the same. Whether it’s supporting someone into work, building confidence, or helping launch a new idea, I believe everyone in Gateshead deserves the chance to succeed.
Through my work leading Gateshead Community Organisation, I support residents across our borough — helping people into employment, backing new community ventures, and championing inclusion, especially for those who often feel overlooked.
As a candidate for the Liberal Democrats, I’m focused on what matters locally: stronger community connections, better opportunities, and real support for people and families across Gateshead. Politics should work for you — and I’m here to make sure it does.
I live in Gateshead and I want to improve the area and make it the best it can be. Real change happens when the community comes together with a shared vision of making our lives better. This can only happen when community priorities are at the forefront of local policy.
I am used to working with a diverse range of people and groups in my professional life. This has taught me a lot about how to get things done.
Council tax is rising, and yet people no longer believe that anything will improve. Rising prices and decreasing value is a death knell of any good business and Councils should be no different. Labour control the People’s Purse in Gateshead, and yet they have failed to listen and deliver on what the people want time and time again.
Take control of your council taxes with the Liberal Democrats to:
Gateshead Labour have let people down, and that’s part of why Gateshead is the only part of the region that is losing population. 52 years is long enough, and I am campaigning to be part of a new start. We have an opportunity to fix our issues and get the council working again. Let’s bring some energy back and Get Gateshead Going.
Michael has lived in Lobley Hill all his life, and knows the everyday issues that affect this area. He is committed to making a difference by making sure that local people have a say in the decisions that affect them.
He pledges to listen to residents' concerns, respond quickly, and speak up for residents in the Council. Michael wants to work with residents to make sure the community feels valued and supported.
