Low Fell

SixToFix

The Low Fell community spoke and we listened. Low Fell set their priorities as;

  1. Look after our green spaces and trees better
  2. Increase street cleaning and dog warden services
  3. Bring back Resident Parking Zones
  4. Develop better plans for our town centres and traffic
  5. Enforce fines for fly tippers
  6. Make house building and repairs a priority

I have been Leader of the Liberal Democrat Opposition on Gateshead Council since January 2023, and have represented Low Fell since 1996. I sit on a number of Council committees and provide constructive opposition — which means backing the Council when it does the right thing, but criticising it when it doesn’t.

I believe that a Lib Dem Council would empower residents to have a real say over issues that matter. In the meantime we speak up for people who all too often feel let down. Gateshead charges the highest levels of Council Tax for band D properties of any metropolitan borough in the country, but residents feel that it is out if touch and unresponsive. That has to change.

Beyond the Council, I am a Professor at Northumbria University’s Business School and write a monthly column for The Journal.

Ron says “Labour have run Gateshead for 52 years and it’s time that changed. Lib Dems are campaigning for Gateshead to have a proper Youth Service, for a Council that listens, supports local business and acts quickly rather than dithering. We want a Council that is green, clean and fair. Join us in DEMANDING BETTER FOR GATESHEAD

I have been a Councillor for Low Fell since 2016. I was born and brought up in Gateshead, and attended Glynwood Primary School and Emmanuel College. I subsequently studied at the London School of Economics and Durham University. As well as being a Councillor, I teach economics.

I care deeply about Low Fell and want to ensure our area gets a fair deal. That means working hard to make our streets cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.

I am pushing for action to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, to make sure our neighbourhoods are well maintained, and to stop Labour from wasting  money on things that don’t benefit residents.

My focus is on:

• Delivering results that matter to local people by improving services
• Supporting community initiatives
• Making Low Fell a better place to live, work, and raise a family

I was born and raised in Low Fell, and I am the third generation to live here. My family has been part of the commercial fabric of Gateshead since the mid 1700's. I was elected to represent it in 2022.

I attended local schools before studying Business at the University of Teesside. Professionally my 30-year career is rooted in new market development within the construction, property and infrastructure deployment sectors, and I specialise in the decarbonisation of heat, power and transport. I have sat on the Renewable Energy Association UK Solar Steering Group and contributed to their Solar, Energy Storage and Electric Vehicle Charging forums.

I am passionate about the creation of a sustainable regional economy whilst also leaving a sustainable environment to future generations. I believe both can thrive when communities are supported to help themselves. I am not afraid to speak truth to power and will continue to do so on behalf of residents.
