Response to the closure of A167 flyover
Gateshead Liberal Democrats have issued a response to the sudden closure of the A167 flyover on December 13.
I stand for:
Community and local amenity - we should all love where we live. It should be safe, clean, accessible and enjoyable.
Environment - I care about the global picture and our local environment. I want greener transport and energy. Fairer, more sustainable food systems. Flourishing wildlife. And aiming for net zero carbon.
Social Justice – I want a fairer society (within that I include animals). Standing up for people who don’t have a voice or haven’t been born with the same life chances.
About me:
I was brought up in London in a single parent family but made the Northeast my home after coming to Newcastle to study 30 years ago. I am now a lecturer at Newcastle University in Animal Welfare and Behaviour. I have 2 children at a local school, dog, cat, and chickens! I am an advocate for active transport and I cycle to work when I can.
My pet hates are litter/fly tipping, dog fouling and potholes. Things I would love to see thrive are a sense of community and activities for all, nature and green spaces, businesses and everyone’s well-being. I am used to advocating for people and fixing problems.
Why I'm a Lib Dem:
The Lib Dems understand the problems of Gateshead and have informed, workable solutions. I am not political, I just want a better environment for everyone in Gateshead and from my experience the Liberal Democrat councillors can really make a difference. I’m impressed by how much they care for everyone, their expertise, pragmatic plans, their tireless campaigning and what they achieve. I have joined them to stand to try to make a positive difference.
As a group we have created a 100 point manifesto for improving life in Gateshead. I believe it has something for everyone to really help breathe new life into our city. My goal is to improve, invigorate and include. Let’s work together to get Gateshead going for everyone’s benefit.
If elected to Wardley and Leam Lane, I would work with the community to help tackle the issues that matter to you.
I am an IT Engineer based in Gateshead.
I value being part of a strong local community.
I understand the importance of reliable services and responsive local representation. I joined the Lib Dems because I know that they have a great reputation for responding to residents and getting things done for them.
I am interested in supporting residents and helping ensure that everyday concerns are taken seriously and acted upon. If I am elected I will work with residents to ensure your voice is heard and your concerns are addressed.

Council bosses have been told "it's time for answers" about a heavily delayed project to build an events arena
Jonathan Aibi said “The child benefit cap means families don't get financial support for more than two children. It is unfair and cruel.
Soon after Jonathan Aibi called for the Council to improve Gateshead High Street, the Council launched a consultation asking for residents’ views on how to improve the High Street.
We need a strong local champion to challenge Labour bosses at the Council when they get things wrong
Gateshead Labour expect your vote - do they deserve it this time?
